Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) or CPN (UML) is in the process of finalizing the candidacy for the National Assembly in Nepal. The responsibility of finalizing the list of candidates has been entrusted to party president KP Sharma Oli.

During a four-hour-long secretariat meeting at the party headquarters in Chasal, Lalitpur, a preliminary discussion took place about potential candidates from all seven provinces. General Secretary Shankar Pokharel mentioned that the party aims to field candidates in all 19 seats, and the specific cluster arrangement is yet to be finalized.

In the meeting, three names were recommended from each of the seven provinces for the vacant positions, with an emphasis on individuals who have contributed to the movement and can garner the trust of all parties. The discussion also involved cluster-wise considerations, and some clusters are still pending verification.

The nominations for all 19 seats are planned to be registered on January 23rd, once the clarity is obtained on whether the recommended names belong to the designated clusters or not. Secretary Padma Aryal stated that the responsibility of finalizing the list according to the clusters has been given to President KP Sharma Oli.

It’s evident that the party is taking a thorough and strategic approach in selecting candidates for the National Assembly, emphasizing contributions to the movement and broad acceptance across parties.
