Public schools in New York City will be on holiday from Tihar/Diwali next year. New York City Mayor Eric Adams made the announcement on Thursday.

New York assembly member Jennifer Rajkumar has introduced a legislative proposal regarding Diwali holidays. Only News Network reported that the MLA of the metropolis also approved the proposal.

More than 200,000 New Yorkers of Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh and Jain faiths celebrating Diwali, the festival of lights, welcomed the decision. It is said that the Diwali holiday will not affect the teaching of the school and as per the rules, classes will be held for 180 days a year.
