Not giving customers a charger in the box with the iPhone has proven costly for Apple. A court in Brazil has decided to fine Apple 100 million Brazilian reals, i.e. about two and a half billion rupees, for not providing iPhone buyers with chargers.
Also, the court has ordered Apple to provide the charger in the box along with the iPhone. The Sao Paulo State Court gave the verdict against Apple.
The Association of Borrowers, consumer groups and taxpayers filed a case against the Apple company. They claimed that Apple is doing wrong by selling flagship iPhones without chargers.
Apple said it will appeal against the decision of the Brazilian court. Apple claims that it stopped providing chargers in the box with the iPhone to reduce carbon emissions and electrical waste. Apple currently does not include a charger in the box with a new iPhone. He has been selling chargers separately to customers.
In the name of Green Initiative, Apple has forced the customer to buy a separate charger, according to the court. Earlier, Apple used to give a new charger in the box along with the new iPhone. But with the launch of the iPhone-12 in 2020, Apple stopped giving free chargers along with the iPhone box.
Apple has already been fined for not providing chargers with new iPhones. Earlier, the Brazilian government fined Apple company about 122 million Brazilian reals. Brazil’s Ministry of Justice has banned the sale of the iPhone-12 and subsequent iPhone series, judging that Apple is handing over incomplete goods to customers.
