Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has come into the limelight again after commenting on Tinkune’s controversy.
Balen, who brought the plan to build infrastructure in the budget by solving the three-corner dispute, which has been a problem for a long time, questioned the elected leaders from that region on social media.
Writing on social media on October 1, Shah questioned President Bidya Devi Bhandari and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal regarding the issue of Tinkune Park.
He questioned the president and the president of United Samajwadi Nepal by posting a picture of the vacant land on Facebook to build a park in Thinkune, Kathmandu.
Balen said that at one time Tinkune area was the election constituency of President Bhandari and Madhav Kumar of Nepal and said that the problem there has not been resolved for 50 years.
He did not solve the problem of Tinkune in his own area for 50 years even by repeatedly signing agreements. Now which face will you show to the people to ask for votes? There are still two months, the government is yours. I am hoping that the problem will be solved,” wrote Balen.
Included in the policy program
Similarly, the metropolis, while presenting the budget and program for the financial year 2079/80, has also mentioned that necessary initiatives will be taken with the federal government to solve the issue related to the compensation of Tinkune land located in Ward No. 32.
After the resolution of the budget, the metropolis has announced that an international level park will be built at that location.Mayor Balen is in favor of building an international level park with a basement in Tinkunne. According to Bhupdev Shah, head of Balen’s secretariat, preparations are being made to build the park this year itself.
The study for the park will also be started after Danshai. Rather than what the federal government does, we protect and promote the areas under our control. The metropolis’s opinion is that the federal government should solve the problem of compensation. Did the metropolis only do it for cheap publicity? In response to the question, Shah says, ‘We did not do this for publicity, the metropolis is making internal preparations. A park is to be built here. The compensation dispute is a matter for the federal government to resolve. All rights vested in the metropolis
Idle for 47 years
The three-cornered ground, which has been empty for 47 years, is abandoned and in disarray. The then government started the land acquisition of Tinkune on June 14, 2032 according to the Land Acquisition Act. Since then, there was a plan to build a park in Tinkune. The government had last set a compensation amount of Rs. Although the Metropolitan Corporation started distributing compensation for 35 pieces of land from 14th January to 66th January 2064, all the amount could not be distributed as the land owners were not satisfied.
Out of the 35 acres of the park, 21 acres of land have been compensated by the government. Out of the 150 million sent by the Nepal government, only 108 million has been distributed.
After the rest of the landowners refused to accept the compensation amount, on 24 July 2070, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City sent the remaining amount back to the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.
