The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority has suggested that public institutions should cancel the provision of free services to their officers and employees.
According to the system of providing free services, the disparity between service users and employees has increased and the authority has studied and suggested to abolish such system. According to the authority, this arrangement has also had a negative impact on the financial condition of some public institutions.
According to the annual report of the Authority, Nepal Airlines Corporation provides free air tickets to its officials. The Electricity Authority provides free electricity to its employees. Nepal Telecom has arranged for free telephone and internet.
The employees of the Dairy Development Institute get a certain amount of milk free of charge. The employees of the oil corporation do not have to pay the fuel amount of certain results. The employees of the insurance company do not have to pay the premium for the insurance.
“Since public institutions have been providing their services, products or business facilities free of charge to their officers and employees in addition to bonuses”, the suggestion given by the Authority states, “Since there is discrimination between the service recipients and the employees of those bodies and there is a negative impact on the financial status of public institutions, the Government of Nepal should study to abolish such provisions.’
