The government has started a study to determine the time to stop the import of vehicles running on petroleum products. According to Finance Minister Janardan Sharma, a committee has been formed under the leadership of the Revenue Secretary and the study has started. This committee will give suggestions to the government about how many years to stop vehicles using petroleum products in Nepal.
Addressing the opening program of NADA Expo-2022 on Thursday, Finance Minister Sharma said, ‘We are studying when and in how many years petroleum-using vehicles will be stopped in Nepal, for this under the leadership of the Revenue Secretary.Finance Minister Sharma suggested that Nepal should also be converted to electric vehicles and that NADA should also be ready for it. “After a decade, Nepal will have to go for rides powered by hydro, NADA should also think in that direction,” he said. Finance Minister Sharma said that not only the current NADA Auto Show exhibition, but also the important contribution to bring to the debate what is the current need, where are we going, what is our future course of action. This time NADA Auto Show is focused on electric vehicles.Referring to the fact that about 3 billion worth of petroleum fuel is imported in Nepal, the finance minister told the figure of 168 billion worth of diesel import. He mentioned that this has also increased the environmental pollution by saying that the Nepalese dollar has gone abroad. The Minister of Finance said that the debate on green economy is going on all over the world and how to prevent the rise in temperature and how to avoid the problems caused by pollution.
